I have settled in Fredericton now, and a month has passed since my last post. In that time I have done quite a few things pertaining to getting settled in, and getting on with research directions and stuff. I’m pleased with where I am at this point, and feel like I made the right decision to transfer; I missed this kind of environment. Now I feel I have what I need to do good research. The library system here at UNB is wonderful and I’ve gotten down to reading books regarding Systems Thinking, Systems Dynamics, and SystemsDNA. I feel that the work done by the MIT guys on the dynamic behaviors of systems is so powerful that I really want to master it. It should allow me to have strong tools to predict and understand the world…so much to read. I am currently looking through General Systems Theory - by Von Bertalanffy, the father of GST, and “The Human Factor” by Kim Vicente, and a book on Holonics and Evolution, by Smuts; this is in addition to reading everything written by Jay Forrester, the System Dynamics founder. Indeed, I’m happy to be able to have some more time to get into the readings. Oh and let’s not forget BRAHMS modelling, and STAMP analysis to master!
In terms of the research though I am still in problem determination phase. There’s also a new project coming up that I may be on; which will allow me some travel options too. Anyway, that’s good…OH and I’m playing lots of chess these days, and I managed to get some ice skating in (still planning on taking figure skating lessons sometime soon). Also, I haven’t joined the wu taichi academy yet, but will do so once finances are looking right.
Nonetheless, things are good; it’s a tad on the cold side, but thus far the winter’s milder than most. You could still probably snowboard down the hill on some days I think…and of course walking in ice is fun.
Ciao blog world! It’s about 45 days until the New Alexian Year.
